About NEJO

The New Energy Jazz Orchestra was started by noted jazz performers/composers Carl Atkins and Jonathan Kruger in the Spring of 2006. Its legacy dates back to the popular 13-piece big band, Sheer Energy, formed by Carl Atkins in 1984 with several of the players from that group (including Jon Kruger) forming the new ensemble.The purpose of this ensemble is to feature new compositions by the members, showcasing some of Rochester, New York’s finest musicians. The compositions are specifically made to feature select soloists in the group, representing the diversity of the ensemble’s personnel and their collective dedication to the continuation of jazz orchestra as a viable and powerful means of cultural expression.
